How to Choose the Right Google Ads Agency for Your Business

Google Ads can be a powerful tool to drive traffic and generate leads for your business. But managing a successful Google Ads campaign can be complex and time-consuming. That’s where ensuring you are with the correct Google Ads agency can come in.

Choosing the right agency or individual can make all the difference in your campaign’s success.

Top 5 Things to Consider when choosing a Google Ads Agency

Google Ads Agency

1. Experience and Expertise:

  • Industry Experience: Do they have experience working with businesses in your industry? Industry-specific knowledge can be invaluable.
  • Google Ads Certification: Ensure your chosen Google Ads agency and its team members are Google Ads certified. This demonstrates a baseline level of competency.
  • Proven Track Record: Ask for case studies or testimonials from previous clients. This will give you insights into their capabilities and past successes.

Google Ads Partners have access to apply bonus credits to eligible new advertisers.

2. Transparency and Communication:

  • Clear Communication: Do they communicate clearly and effectively? You want an agency that keeps you informed and explains things in a way you understand.
  • Transparent Reporting: How do they track and report on results? Ensure they provide regular, detailed reports that you can easily interpret.
  • Proactive Approach: Do they proactively offer suggestions and strategies for improvement? A good google ads agency will actively look for ways to optimize your campaigns.

Be prepared for the ads to take up to 6 weeks to start working right depending on your business. If you get calls for services that you do not provide or for locations that you do not service, let your agency know.

3. Services Offered:

  • Comprehensive Services: What services do they offer beyond basic campaign management? Look for agencies that offer services like landing page optimisation, conversion rate optimization, and A/B testing.
  • Tailored Strategies: Do they develop customised strategies based on your specific business goals and target audience? A one-size-fits-all approach rarely yields the best results.

4. Pricing and Contracts:

  • Clear Pricing Structure: Understand their pricing model. Is it based on a percentage of ad spend, a flat fee, or an hourly rate?
  • Contract Terms: Review the contract carefully. Pay attention to the length of the contract, termination clauses, and any performance guarantees.

A fair contract is one that allows you to cancel with 14 days notice. An agency needs that time to prepare the handover and to avoid the preparation work for the next month’s ads.

5. Client Relationships:

  • Dedicated Account Manager: Will you have a dedicated account manager as your point of contact? This ensures personalized attention and support.
  • Client Testimonials: Read reviews and testimonials from their clients. This can give you valuable insights into their client relationship management.

Beyond the Basics:

Choosing a Google Ads agency is an investment in your business’s growth. Take your time, do your research, and find an agency that’s the right fit for you.

Think about how you like to work.

For example, if you are someone that needs a lot of conversations and likes to be heavily involved in the process, then a freelancer may be a more suitable option for you to employ.

Think about how the agency works

Is it a large agency who are likely to have a vast team of experience and resources on the pro side, on the con side is they are likely to be working with at least one of your competitors. More likely to be managed by a sales person who has sales targets to worry about.

So what about a small google ads agency? Here you are likely to be dealing or at least have direct access to an owner. They are more likely to not work with competing clients. Every team member in a smaller agency is likely to know your account and business well. Cons is they will not have the time of a large agency to give as much time to the client relationship. They often prefer to spend their time on the project, which means customer relationship building can suffer.

Is your point of contact primary role sales, are they a freelancer or are you dealing with the owner of the agency? There are pros and cons in all those options.

A freelancer has less time and resources, so are more dedicated to keeping you happy ( they feel the loss of a client more than an agency). However they are also unlikely to have as much specialised skills and access to supporting software as an agency would.

How I like to work

I personally choose to not have lock in contracts for two simple reasons:

  • If it is not working for you, you should be able to cancel. If it is working for you, you will not cancel.
  • If a client turns out to not be aligned with values of my agency or have unreasonable requests, expectations or behaviour, I prefer to have the option to part ways quickly.

Not Every Business Suits Google Ads

Let me be clear here, I think Google Ads is the best option for most businesses. If someone was to ask me generically what marketing option is best for a business without giving me any business details, I have and likely will always say Google Ads every single time. Not all businesses need or would do well from Google Ads. Sometimes they could benefit from it but the marketing budget is not large enough to be able to compete efficiently in the Google Ads auctions. It is best to have an in depth conversation with a marketing professional if you are unsure.
